The Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis revealed the advice from MS Dhoni that the former India captain gave to him about playing in big games. The official X account of Durban Super Giants shared the dressing room clip of Marcus Stoinis before they took on the defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape in Qualifier 1 of the SA20 in Cape Town.

The Durban Super Giants and Sunrisers Eastern Cape won seven out of 10 matches each during the double round-robin stage of the SA20 to finish in the top two positions on the points table. During the 2024 league stage of the tournament, both the Super Giants and the Sunrisers managed to register a win against each other away from home, which is why it could be difficult to predict the potential result of the Qualifier 1 set to go down at the Newlands later tonight.

In the short clip from the Durban Super Giants, Marcus Stoinis praised MS Dhoni about how he likes to not change himself unlike other players despite the pressures of a big game, whether at the international or franchise level.

The 34-year-old remarked, “MS Dhoni said one thing to me. He said, in big games, everyone thinks that I’ve got to do something extra, I’ve got to do something different. He said his mantra and how he speaks to himself is he stays there, he stands still and he says, everyone else is going to change. I am the only one here that doesn’t change. And that holds him ahead of everyone else.”

On Wednesday, February 7, Paarl Royals will take on Joburg Super Kings in the Eliminator of the SA20 at the Wanderers in Johannesburg,  with the winner set to reach Qualifier 2, where they will meet the losers of Qualifier 1, i.e., Durban Super Giants and Sunrisers Eastern Cape. The final of the SA20 will be played on Saturday, February 9, at the Newlands in Cape Town.
